“I’ve Lost an Ocean” art exhibition in April March 12, 2007

The series of works to be featured in April by Xin is a continuation to her debut exhibition Pleased to Meet You at MAAD in February. With a total of 20 ink drawings and paintings, all works were snapped up by 5 buyers within the two days that the exhibition was held. Xin and her exhibition were also featured on Arts Central in March.

I’ve Lost an Ocean depicts the loss of love, but more precisely, the loss of a friend. This series portray scenes from movies that depicted and dealt with similar issues of accepting drastic changes and growing from these experiences. Xin (as she is affectionately known as) chose to use red as the predominant colour throughout the works. Red is used as a color to show love and intimacy as well as guilt and denial. The choice of basic colours used also reflects the rawness and simplicity of human emotions caught in the midst of complex human relationships.

Exhibition will be held at red dot design museum (concurrently with MAAD) on April 7 & 8, 11am – 7pm.

we can’t wait for MAAD in March to happen. yes! it’s gonna be on the 3 & 4th March at red dot traffic building, 11am – 8pm. catch us there!

xin’s solo art exhibition…whew! February 4, 2007

Xin held her first solo art exhibition on MAAD premises over the weekend, 3 & 4 feb, where she put up mainly illustrations and 2 oil paintings. themed ‘Pleased To Meet You’, the inspiration came from having lost somebody dear at heart. Her works captured moments in any relationships, like that awkward silence, that i-love-you-but-i-don’t-need-to-say-it moments and others. we didn’t have time (or good lighting) to capture the works on camera but here are some glimpses of it:

amidst red dot design museum’s winning awards and the plushie was used as a lead-in to draw people into the exhibition area.

it is also our pleasure to announce that out of 20 works displayed, 19 were sold )) we’re still in shock given the short time frame the exhibition was but nevertheless we wish to thank you, you 4 buyers that we know/saw and 1 anonymous buyer.

we would also like to take this chance to thank MAAD for their wonderful premise and to encourage fellow artists and designers to consider taking up an exhibition space there to showcase your works. boldly we went forth and amazing results we got

mypaper covered us! :) January 30, 2007

mypaper’s issue today! 30 january 2007. first thing xin could say was ‘i look worried’. indeed she did cos she was frowning! it was a nice full page article on crafting with instructions in mandarin and some tips too. so go pick up your copy today and learn some crafting/sewing tips! we’ll try to post up some simple stuff soon on our website/blog so keep an eye out for those.

great swop idea! January 30, 2007

Swirl has this awesome swop idea and i’m sure it’ll pick up elsewhere too. what other ways to spend a lazy afternoon then to dump your old clothes and pick up some new treasures, and in a cosy atmosphere topped off with yummy cupcakes? xin and i couldn’t resist checking out the 2nd swop on Jan 14th (i know, we’re doing some backlogged blogging here) since we missed the first one. and it was just awesome! we picked up many cool stuff and to see a sample of what other swirl girls have and what we have picked up, have a look here and see for yourself! and what i contributed still new with tag from bali!
